Encyclopedia Britannica Online – You need the school username and password for this.

It is usually easier to use the hard copy version of a dictionary and children still need to be taught basic dictionary skills.
Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary – an online dictionary within Encyclopedia Britannica online – then type in username and password and go down to Encyclopedia Britannica

Phrase Finder – Large collection of English phrases and sayings. It can be used in three ways: as a ‘phrases thesaurus’, to show a list of phrases that relate to any word you choose; to give meanings of English phrases and sayings; or as a reference to check the origin of phrases.

Eyewitness to history; history through the eyes of those who lived it. From the ancient world through to the 20th century this resource although more useful to secondary students will have components in the text, sounds or images that will support primary students’ learning. NB There could be adult content in some sections of the information.
Time capsule– Enter a date and find out about the notable world events, music, movies, grocery prices, favourite toys of the time and other items about that day.
